What is Mission Adventure?
Mission Adventure is the 2024 rendition of our annual group camp. It is a weekend-long adventure for all members of the 17th Newcastle Scout Group (from Beavers all the way up to Scouts!), and is the highlight of our camping season.
It's an opportunity for us to pool our resources and create a truly memorable experience for our young people - and for you, as parents, to see the impact that Scouting can have on your child.
If your child has never been to a camp or a night away from home before, this is the perfect opportunity to give it a try. We have a team of experienced leaders who will be on hand to make sure that everyone has a fantastic time.
Where and When?
The camp will be held at Broadwood Scout Campsite in Morpeth. The adventure begins on the 26th of April 2024 at 6pm and concludes on the 28th of April at noon.
If your child is in Beavers, they'll be starting their adventure on the Saturday morning at 9AM. All other sections will be starting on the Friday evening at 6PM (if a Beaver has a sibling in another section, they can start with their sibling on the Friday evening).
What will we be doing?
Your child will be taking part in a series of challenges, activities and adventures. They will need to work with their team, solve problems and overcome obstacles to complete their mission.
Your child will be in a team with other young people within a reasonable age range, and have a variety of challenges, tasks and activities to complete over the weekend.
The exact itinerary for the weekend is still being finalised, but we can guarantee that it will be a weekend to remember. From Capture the Flag in 10 acres of woodland to a campfire with songs and stories, there's non-stop fun, fast-paced action and adventure for every camper!
What do I need to do?
Firstly, you need to make sure that your child is registered to attend the camp. If you haven't already done so, you can do so by logging in to the Parent Portal and signing them up. If you're not sure of how to do this, speak to your section leader or email us at [email protected].
Secondly, you need to make sure that your child has all the kit they need for the weekend. We have a Kit List available for you to check, and we're always happy to help if you're not sure about anything. This kit list is also available in the Parent Portal.
Finally, you just need to bring your child to the campsite at the right time. We'll take care of the rest!
How much does it cost?
The cost of the camp is £40 per child. This includes all activities, food and camping fees for the weekend.
We charge for camps on top of our normal subscriptions due to the significant cost of running a camp, from food to activities to campsite fees. We also want to make sure that we can provide the best possible camp experience for our young people, and this is reflected in the cost.
Insurance, First Aid, etc
The camp is fully insured and multiple qualified first aiders will be on site at all times. More details of our insurance and first aid provision will be sent to all parents in our Residential Activity Information Pack which will be sent out closer to the camp.
